J. Gilbert Plantinga

After a 30 year career in music J. Gilbert Plantinga, master printer and a photographer since childhood, turned to photography full time in 1999 when he bought his first film scanner and Epson inkjet photo printer. In the same year he began photographing installations and preparing portfolio slides as a courtesy to artist friends. Immersed in street photography and documentary projects Gilbert's work has been in solo and group shows in the Hudson Valley and New York metropolitan area; he was a 2003 recipient of the Center for Photography at Woodstock's Photographer's Fellowship Fund. After founding Upstate Light in 2006 his personal work has turned to large format color photography and he has recently exhibited at Spectra '07 at the Silvermine Arts Guild in New Canaan CT, and Photowork '08 at the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie NY.

Gilbert's first computer, an Apple, had a 3-digit serial number.
